No More Posts until March 2011

To my few viewers, I currently have some real life issues to deal with, renewing documents etc and I also will be in a area where I will have limited access to the internet during this time. I will resume posting videos and articles in March 2011.

Ubuntu Installation Video

This is just a really simple video. The only reason I made it is because some people I know believe that the Installation process is extremely difficult. Well this video will show that it is not.

Browser Comparisons

After going through some of the reviews from sites like Cnet Download.com, Major Geeks, and others, I was shocked to see some of the results that the sites editors have given to certain browsers. Sometimes I really wonder If the Cnet Download.com editors are on some kind of hallucinogenic drug, because they clearly give 5 star ratings to many applications that don't deserve it. Or maybe they're just being bribed to give higher ratings? Who knows?

Anyway, I have done tests on some of the most popular browsers and here are the results.

The task manager showed a memory usage of 69,512 k and I calculated a start up time of 4 seconds. It has a very clean interface, and I have no choice but to say that opera is one of the best browsers in existence. BUT its does have one Problem! Years ago Opera was not a free Browser. The company simply gave its users a trial version of the program. Then sometime around 2003 -2005/2007, Opera teamed up with a company Called "Cydoor Technologies". This "Cydoor" company is well known to be a maker an distributor or Malware and similar threats. If you don't believe me, check out this link from Symantec. Notice that it says "ADWARE CYDOOR" and it is released by a company called " Cydoor Technologies" Here is the link to the Opera / Cydoor Relationship from the Opera website. People use browsers to access their email, bank in formation and many other confidential sites. After seeing the information above, Would you feel safe knowing that you are using a browser which is funded by a company that makes money off advertising / Adware?? I personally would not.

I really wonder how the Cnet Editors gave this crap a 5 star Rating.

A few years ago, I was personally encouraging all of my friends, relatives and acquaintances to... "Use Firefox, it is secure, fast and it even has tabbed browsing". Unfortunately my days of
doing this are over. Since the release of version 3.xx Firefox has become slower than it originally was, and even uses more memory to run. The Task Manager showed 44,712 k of memory usage. It took 7 seconds to start up. Version 2 only used about 20,000 k . This is not too bad as Firefox is still one of the most secure Browers available (unlike Opera), and it is also compatible with most websites. Still I must say, that Firefox is becoming worse with each release, it even crashed twice while I was monitoring it, BUT Firefox runs perfectly fine under Linux Systems, even when using version 3.xx. I have never encountered any problems when using Firefox under Linux. So maybe the problems I had in this test was just a Windows thing that Mozilla has to start working on.

Apple just had to do it. Safari has a very clean interface, but it also lacks a Home button in its default configuration. Everyone who knows me can confirm that I don't generally like apple. BUT I must say that I actually like Safari.

THE ONLY PROBLEM HERE IS that the task manager showed safari using a shocking 123,238 k of memory! That is triple the amount used by any of the other Browsers reviewed in this Blog! What the hell was Steve Jobs thinking?

Is this thing a Browser or a Memory Hog? My computer dramatically slowed down while Safari was running, in fact it became so slow after opening a few tabs, that Safari was the only program that was able to run at that time! It's a good browser for higher end computers.

I still don't understand why the Cnet Download.com editors gave it a 5 star rating for being such a memory hog!

Chrome is fast, lightweight and only showed maximum of 26,804 k of memory usage during the test. It is also based on the WebKit layout engine, which is the same engine that Safari is based on, but still manages to run with almost 6 times less memory usage!

BUT it does have one problem. Chrome treats each tab new tab as a separate process. Open 3 tabs in Chrome, check the Task manager and you will see 3 Chrome processes. Open 4 tabs and you'll see 4 chrome processes, and so on.....

Open enough tabs on this thing and you'll definitely Crash or freeze your computer. It is a very good browser as long an you don't run too many tabs on it. Why would google make something so STUPID? I wonder what Sergey Brin and Larry Page think about this?

This one probably needs no Introduction. It has been criticized over the years for being insecure and also for being shoved down the throats of Microsoft's customers.

Even I criticized it many times in the past. Honestly, now I have nothing bad to say about the latest version.

The task manager only showed 2 processes from the program with a total memory usage of 48,544 k. It tends to get slower as more tabs are opened, but this is the only real problem I had with it so far.

I saved the best one for last. K -Meleon, is one of the fastest, most - lightweight browsers that I have ever seen. It is also based on the Gecko Layout Engine, (which is the same engine that Firefox is based on). I have been using K-Meleon
for almost 2 Years now.

The program only took 1 and 1/2 seconds to start up, and the Task Manager showed a maximum Memory usage of 23,444, this is less than half the amount used by other browsers, and almost 6 times less than the amount used by Safari!

It is very secure, but the only thing with K-Meleon is, it's design and interface is dull, boring and it also LOOKS old and outdated. BUT if anyone is not satisfied with the default theme, there are many themes available for download from the K-Meleon website. Users also have the option of creating their own themes, if none of the themes on the website suits them. The browser is fully customizable and gives the user total control of the way everything works in a very easy to use manner.

AGAIN, I cannot understand what Is wrong with the Cnet Download.com editors. K-Meleon is an excellent browser, and it was not even reviewed by the Editors. Not many people know of its existence, BUT years ago people didn't even know much about Firefox either! AND Today Firefox is one of the most popular Browsers.

I personally believe that K-Meleon will rise to be a popular browser in the near future. There's a link at the bottom of this page for anyone who might be interested in downloading it. Try it out! You might like it!

Using Ophcrack

Ophcrack is an open source password cracker which is based on rainbow tables. It is very easy to use and is quite effective. I made a short video demonstrating the basic password cracking procedure. For more information on Ophcrack, check ophcrack.sourceforge.net

Using Truecrypt

Just a simple video, demonstrating the very basic use of Truecrypt. Creating and Mounting Volumes. I didn't put any annotations, or explanations as I didn't think they would be necessary.
